Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy)

Today there is no reason why you should not be satisfied with the look of your breasts. Many women decide to undergo surgery to help boost self-confidence and increase their level of happiness and satisfaction with their body’s appearance.
One of the most popular surgeries is breast lift surgery. This cosmetic procedure corrects the appearance of the breasts, lifting them and making them look natural. During the procedure, I shape the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissues. Breast lift surgery provides a proportionate, erect and natural appearance.
Breast lift surgery alone does not significantly change the size of the breasts, and it is important to know that if you are seeking fuller breasts I would recommend you undergo breast augmentation and lift in the same surgery. In order to conclude the best option for you, we will meet for a personal consultation and discuss the options available and decide which best suits your expectations.

About the Procedure

Over the years our breasts lose their volume, and in some cases, when taking off a bra, the nipples fall under the breast fold. Some women suffer from asymmetry in which one breast is lower than the other. Breast lift surgery can restore the breasts to an erect and proportionate appearance.
Many women experience ‘empty’ breasts, or a downward sagging of the nipple after pregnancy and breastfeeding or after dramatic weight loss. Breast lift helps restore the breasts to their young, natural and erect appearance. This procedure does not change the volume of the breast but tightens the tissues around the breast tissue to lift it.
During our personal consultation, we will discuss the right and optimal solution for you and I will explain the difference between a breast lift and a breast lift with implants.
During breast lift surgery I lift the breast by removing excess skin and reshaping the surrounding tissue line, like in a push-up bra. The procedure also involves reshaping the size of the nipple and when implants are used their job is to increase the volume and fullness of the breast.
In our consultation, I will provide you with all the information about the procedure and scarring. We will also discuss the difference between undergoing a breast lift only compared to a breast lift with implants. We will determine which skin incision would be right to make in order to achieve the desired result for you.
The type of scarring depends on your physiology and also on the type of implant chosen. In general, the more levitation you need, the longer the scar.
For best long-term results, it is important to be close to your target weight before surgery.
Regarding combined surgery with breast augmentation, we will together measure implants of different sizes, placed inside your bra, in front of a mirror, so we can choose the implant that best suits your measurements and expectations.
Then we will decide the best option for you. Breast lift with implants, breast lift with self-fat injections or lifting only, without implants.

A Personal Tip:

This may be what you are missing to feel good about yourself. Beautiful and erect breasts in proportion to your body will give you confidence, presence and make you feel good about your appearance…you are allowed to feel good about the way you look.

Questions and Answers

Surgery is between one and a half to three hours, and varies from person to person, depending on the procedures performed during the operation.

If your breasts sag or have lost their volume, if your nipples face downwards and the areola is large, or if you suffer from asymmetry, this surgery is appropriate for you.

I will require your full medical history including if there is a history of breast cancer in your family, if you have any allergies, if you are taking any medication on a regular or temporary basis and if you smoke.
You will be required to perform blood tests, and breast ultrasound or mammography.
Two weeks prior to surgery you must stop taking medication or supplements such as Aspirin, anti-inflammatory tablets e.g. Nurofen, Omega 3 or Vitamin E, which affect blood clotting times.

This surgery is usually performed under general or local anesthesia, depending on the type of surgery.
Surgery under local anesthesia is performed by making an incision around the areola, removal of excess skin and suturing. General anesthesia will be given in cases of excessively sagging breasts with a large amount of excess skin. In this case 2 incisions will be made, around the areola and along the breast.

This is a comparatively simple procedure.
One of the rarest complications is the development of necrosis of the areola.
This complication is possible among heavy smokers, women who suffer from vascular problems and among women with extra-large breasts. This type of complication can lead to surgery to restore the areola and nipple that have been damaged by the necrosis.
A reconstructed nipple is numb, and breastfeeding will not be possible after such surgery.
There may be bleeding and bruising, inflammation, discomfort and swelling in the operated area.
There are cases where there is a loss of sensation or hypersensitivity in the nipple. Sometimes feeling returns and in other cases not, however, it is particularly important to know that all of these are only rare effects.
In rare cases, the ability to breastfeed may be impaired, but there is usually no problem.

Pain relief medication will of course be prescribed as necessary and are taken for two to six days after surgery.
You will be released a few hours after surgery, wearing a supportive bandage, which must be left on for 24 hours, after which a suitable supportive sport bra, as required for an additional six weeks. After this you can wear a normal bra and must ensure to wear a bra regularly.
Recovery takes time and you will need patience. Scarring will fade over time and is personal.
Improving the appearance of scars can be achieved by application of scar treatment cream.
Recovery from breast lift surgery is less painful than breast augmentation surgery, as the removal of excess skin does not involve stretching the skin and therefore the recovery is less painful.
